Meet the team
Jonathan Brewer
Chief Digital Officer
Having joined the CET in April 2019, Jonathan is responsible for leading our technology strategy and IT functions. He has driven change to improve customer experience and satisfaction throughout his career - most recently, managing the development of the SIMPLIFi product for CET.
Jonathan has built both in-house and outsourced development teams, often blending offshore partners with local talent. He is passionate about building cloud-native products and using the best approaches to software delivery. He is a huge advocate of Agile with SCRUM and loves the constant learning he gets from working with his fantastic team.
Given the success of SIMPLIFi, Jonathan has built a dedicated in-house SIMPLIFi development team, bringing together specialists in the range of technologies it employs. This positions CET as one of leading tech-enabled operators in the Insurance Services space.
Tom Wolfe
Principal Developer
Tom Wolfe has over 10 years’ experience in software engineering, working with a range of technologies – a genuine full-stack developer. Having spent the early part of his career helping to grow a UK-based CRM company, he then honed his skills in web-technologies and building with a microservices architecture whilst working within the FinTech industry.
Tom is deeply committed to ever increasing the agility of the business with a relentless focus on continuous improvement and driving quality throughout the software delivery lifecycle. He is building a world class Insurtech team which will further cement SIMPLIFi’s commanding position in the claim management and insurance service delivery industry.
Fábio Simão
Senior Developer
Fábio Simão has nearly 10 years’ experience in software development, with full-stack skills gained whilst working with a range of technologies and companies. Having worked both in-house and as a contractor, Fábio has an invaluable range of skills with expertise in DevOps processes, focusing on Continuous integration and delivery
He has a particular interest in Cloud Infrastructure engineering and is leading our efforts to further optimise and improve the back-end SIMPLIFi architecture, with a medium-term plan to move to a multi-cloud approach by containerising key aspects of the solution.
As a senior developer, Fábio plays a key role in our relentless approach to quality and continuous improvement and helps mentor new members of the team.
Sean Davies
Mobile App Developer
Another of the more recent recruits, Sean joined the team in October 2020 to work on developing the SIMPLIFi app to help ensure greater stability, reliability and overall improved user experience for CET’s UK-wide mobile engineer network.
Initially, Sean’s role has been to ensure that all coding within the app follows best practice. As part of the development project, he engages with a designated test group, followed by a public beta group, to systematically test all possible scenarios and determine any issues to be resolved before updates are made available to the public.
In the long-term, Sean aims to develop proposals for additional elements to the app, including the potential for implementing video chat capability.
Stephen McAleer
Full-Stack Developer
Stephen joined CET at the end of 2020 as part of the new development team, at which point he was given responsibility to rebuild the existing systems architecture. With an initial focus on front-end services, Stephen aims to improve the SIMPLIFi app performance and user experience, as well as reducing infrastructure costs with an additional focus on front-end test automation.
Having previously worked as a Software Developer in the automotive industry, insurance is an entirely different sector for Stephen. However, with a passion for learning about the new and advancing development technologies, he was keen to immerse himself into what was clearly an interesting project enabling him to produce clean and efficient code by applying the best practices available.
Fergus Mullineux
Front End Developer
One of the most recent recruits to the expanding team, Fergus has been appointed to help with refactoring the platform in order to facilitate enhanced planned development.
Part of his role is to split out the platform and look to rebuild it across multiple smaller parts. It is a significant piece of work and by taking this in approach it becomes a more manageable process, essentially like pulling together the different pieces of a jigsaw.
By doing this piecemeal it will enable us to increase the turnover of features in a much quicker process, resolve fixes and feature requests while providing an overall more robust experience for our clients and, ultimately, the Customer.
Rebecca Simpson
Test Engineer
Rebecca first joined CET in 2014 working in the call centre and, since then, has had what some might call a non-traditional career path.
After joining on what was initially a short-term role to support the team after much of the UK was hit by severe flooding, Rebecca was given the opportunity to work on developing the SIMPLIFi app as part of the support and testing process and is committed to ensuring that it creates a better experience for both Customers and staff.
Since then, she has become a qualified ISTQB software tester who admits to still getting a thrill when telling people that the former healthcare assistant now works in IT as a software testing engineer.
Scott Hughes
IT Manager
Having been with CET for six years, Scott has very much played a key part in the SIMPLIFi journey. Brought into the process from the start, Scott was heavily involved in the design element, testing and the overall configuration of the project and has been instrumental in steering it through to taking the first Customer call in 2018.
The focus for Scott throughout has always been to overcome any potential incidents and ensure that the system remained operational 24/7/365 to give the Customer the very best levels of performance. Although always seeking opportunities to further enhance the platform, Scott is understandably proud of what SIMPLIFi has become and the impact that it has had on the business as a whole, particularly the role it has played in ensuring business continuity during the challenges posed by the COVID pandemic and the move to a 100% homeworking model.
